Arrington Living Center was under the ownership of Covington County Hospital as of the first quarter of 2026, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) data show. Situated in Covington County, the facility has been in the hospital’s hands since May 1, 2011.

The nursing home is classified as a public facility.

For that period, Arrington Living Center earned an overall CMS rating of 1, which is lower than Mississippi’s statewide nursing home average rating of 2.7. CMS assigns these ratings based on key indicators such as health inspections, staff adequacy, and resident care quality.

Data indicate that the center had an average daily census of 53.7 residents out of 60 available beds during the first quarter of 2026. The facility currently does not operate as a hospital-based nursing home.

Arrington Living Center incurred $17,727 in fines across two separate instances and received two penalties in the first quarter of 2026.

Covington County had only one public nursing facility as of that reporting period.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the country’s older adult population is expanding, while the number of younger individuals is shrinking. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, as those under 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the past 100 years, the older adult population has surged from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A study from 2021 estimates that nearly half of Americans in this age category—approximately 28 million—may need long-term services and support. The study further anticipates that more than a third could require care in a nursing home at some stage.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
