Emme Bates, Tyler Nichols, and Valentino Rudolph have been recognized with weekly honors by the Sun Belt Conference for their performances at the Arkansas Invitational, according to an announcement from the conference office on Wednesday.
Bates was named women’s track athlete of the week after setting her second school record this season with a mile time of 4:43. This performance currently leads the conference and ranks third in the South region. She also holds the top spot in the Sun Belt for the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:44.67.
Nichols earned men’s field athlete of the week after winning the long jump event against competitors from both SEC and Sun Belt schools. His mark of 7.84 meters is currently first in the Sun Belt and second in the region.
Rudolph received men’s track athlete of the week honors following his victory in the 200 meter dash with a time of 20.94 seconds. This result places him sixth nationally among Division I athletes and first in both the Sun Belt and regional rankings. Rudolph also serves as anchor for Southern Miss’s men’s 4×400 relay team, which leads within the conference.
The Golden Eagles are scheduled to compete next at the Jaguar Invitational hosted by South Alabama on February 1st in Mobile.
