Forrest County, Miss.- Sheriff Charlie Sims with members of the FCSO were present at the Forrest County Board of Supervisor meeting today to accept a resolution pertaining to “Sexual Assault Awareness Month.”
Board President David Hogan, read the resolution aloud in the meeting, and presented it to Sheriff Sims along with District Attorney Lin Carter.
One in five women in the United States experienced completed or attempted rape during their lifetime. A quarter (24.8%) of men in the U.S. experienced some form of contact sexual violence in their lifetime. Nationwide, 81% of women and 43% of men reported experiencing some form of sexual harassment and/or assault in their lifetime.
“When you look at the numbers of cases generated nationwide pertaining to sexual assault, this is a matter that we take very seriously.,” Said Sheriff Sims. “We appreciate the Board of Supervisors direct involvement to help get this important message out to the public.”
