NATIONAL CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS WEEK

From May 1 – 7, we recognize and celebrate National Correctional Officers Week. Former President Ronald Reagan established this week on May 5, 1984. He saw the need to create a week for correctional officers to thank them for their services and celebrate their contributions to society.

There is a whole range of services that our Corrections Officers and their supervisors and command staff provide at our Adult Detention Center, our Juvenile Detention Center and our Evaluations Center. Corrections Officers largely serve in behind-the-scenes roles and they work long hours in a demanding environment. In addition to overseeing those they are charged with, they perform a myriad of other duties that are challenging and may yield little tangible reward other than knowing at the end of their shift they gave everything they had to keep their charges safe. During this week, various U.S. agencies will be honoring Correctional Officers in our jails, prisons, and community correctional facilities and we take this opportunity to salute and thank our own staff for the outstanding work they do each day!
