The Southern Miss Golden Eagles track and field teams achieved four event wins at the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville on Friday. Emme Bates broke her second school record of the season, finishing the mile in 4:43.31. Tyler Nichols also set a new program record with a long jump distance of 7.84 meters.
Bates led the women’s team, which had several top-eight finishes throughout the meet. Joidon Boddie secured third place in the triple jump with a mark of 12.36 meters. Bates also placed fifth in the mile and fourth in the 3,000 meters, clocking 9:44.67. Alana Simon finished fourth in the high jump after clearing 1.75 meters, while Valencia Watson took seventh place in the 200 meters with a time of 24.18 seconds.
On the men’s side, Nichols’ first-place finish was among several strong performances for Southern Miss athletes. Valentino Rudolph won the 200 meters with a time of 20.94 seconds; Piers Cameron claimed first place in shot put at 19.07 meters; and Maximus Littleton won the high jump by clearing 2.10 meters. Tyler Hughes also cleared 2.10 meters to take second place in that event.
Other notable results included De’Aundre Ward finishing third in long jump (7.67m), Javel Fullerton placing fifth in the 300 meters (34.00), and Conner Mozee taking sixth place in weight throw (18.49m). In triple jump, Isaiah Lowrey placed fifth (14.49m), Clemon Jimerson finished seventh (13.85m), and Justin Johnson came eighth (13.84m). The men’s relay team placed fourth in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:12.84.
Southern Miss is scheduled to compete again on Sunday, February 1st at the Jaguar Invitational hosted by South Alabama.
