During the first quarter of 2026, Jones Company Rest Home was the second largest nursing facility in Jones County, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The center reported 122 beds available—15 above the county average for that quarter—and an average of 115.3 residents receiving care during this period.

CMS gave Jones Company Rest Home a 2 out of 5 overall rating, compared to the state nursing home average of 2.7 in Mississippi.

Comfort Care Nursing Center was the largest facility in Jones County for the quarter, with 126 beds, while Care Center of Laurel followed as the third largest, offering 120 beds.

Jones Company Rest Home incurred $12,735 in fines and faced two penalties by the end of the first quarter of 2026.

There were two public nursing homes operating in Jones County, Mississippi as of that quarter.

New U.S. Census Bureau estimates find the nation’s older population continues to rise, contrasting with a decline in younger groups. The population of Americans age 65 and older grew by 13% from 2020 to 2024, while those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. The country’s older adult population has grown sharply since 1920, up from 4.9 million then to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 report indicates roughly half of that age group—about 28 million individuals—are expected to need long-term care and support, and over one third may ultimately require nursing facility care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
