The Southern Miss baseball team will travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia for its final Sun Belt Conference road series of the season against James Madison, beginning May 8. The three-game series starts Friday at Veterans Memorial Park and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ and radio affiliates.
This matchup is significant as it marks the program’s first-ever trip to James Madison and their second visit to Virginia this season. The Golden Eagles currently hold a record of 34-14 overall and 18-6 in conference play, sitting in second place in the league standings behind Coastal Carolina. They enter the weekend with a three-game winning streak after sweeping ULM at home.
Game times have been adjusted from earlier schedules, with Saturday’s contest now set for 3 p.m. Central Time and Sunday’s game starting at 11 a.m. Central Time. Probable starters include left-hander Grayden Harris (7-1, 3.00 ERA) on Friday, right-hander Camden Clark (6-0, 2.83 ERA) on Saturday, and right-hander Camden Sunstrom (4-3, 2.32 ERA) on Sunday.
Under head coach Christian Ostrander, Southern Miss has achieved notable success in May regular-season games with a record of 21-1 during this month and a current streak of fourteen consecutive wins in regular-season May contests. Overall under Ostrander’s leadership, the team is 29-4 in May including two appearances each in both the Sun Belt Conference tournament finals and NCAA Regional finals.
Left fielder Davis Gillespie leads Southern Miss with a .326 batting average through the first forty-eight games along with twelve home runs and thirty-nine runs batted in (RBI). Seth Smith follows closely at .313 average while Kyle Morrison also bats .313 but leads the team with fourteen homers and forty RBI.
After concluding their series against James Madison University, Southern Miss will return home for senior weekend beginning Thursday against Georgia Southern.
