Southern Miss Golden Eagles began their four-game road trip with a 91-65 loss to Troy at Trojan Arena on Wednesday night. The defeat ended Southern Miss’ four-game winning streak and allowed Troy to move into first place in the Sun Belt Conference.

Djahi Binet recorded another double-double, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds. This marks his third consecutive double-double and his fifth of the season. Tylik Weeks contributed 11 points, reaching double figures for the 17th time this season. Israel Hart added 12 points, and Dylan Brumfield finished with 11 points for his ninth double-digit scoring game this year.

The starting lineup for Southern Miss included Curt Lewis, Brewer Carruth, Tylik Weeks, Dylan Brumfield, and Djahi Binet. The team won the jump ball for the tenth time this season, and Curt Lewis scored the first basket for the fifth time.

After a slow start from both teams that saw several minutes without scoring, Izzy Hart broke a drought with a baseline jumper that briefly put Southern Miss ahead. However, Troy responded with a strong run late in the first half, including three consecutive three-pointers by Cobi Campbell that helped extend their lead to 19 points before halftime.

Southern Miss managed to cut into Troy’s lead early in the second half but could not sustain momentum as Troy rebuilt its advantage following free throws awarded on a foul call against Southern Miss. Fallou Diagne hit a three-pointer to end a five-minute field goal drought for Southern Miss midway through the second half, but it was not enough to spark a comeback.

Troy shot over 52 percent from the field and made eleven three-pointers during the game. Southern Miss shot just under 44 percent from the floor and converted only three of twenty attempts from beyond the arc.

Following this loss, Southern Miss holds an all-time series lead over Troy at 18-5; however, games played in Troy are now tied at four wins each per team.

Next up for Southern Miss is an away game against Texas State on Saturday afternoon before continuing their road stretch at Georgia State and Coastal Carolina next week.
