The Golden Eagles enter the contest with a 12-12 overall record and a 6-6 mark in conference play. Their most recent outing resulted in a 73-65 victory over James Madison, ending a five-game losing streak. Dalyn Brandon contributed eight points, three rebounds, two blocks, and one steal during his second start of the season.
“Southern Miss snapped a five-game losing skid last Saturday with a 73-65 win over James Madison. Tylik Weeks scored 28 points to reach the 20-point threshold for the 10th time this season,” according to team notes.
Other highlights from Southern Miss’s season include limiting turnovers to seven in a game against Coastal Carolina and achieving their best road start in league play in more than ten years by winning two games on their first Sun Belt road trip. Weeks ranks third in scoring within the conference at an average of 17.8 points per game, while Dylan Brumfield averages 12.1 points per game during Sun Belt contests.
Weeks also recorded his first career double-double with an 18-point, ten-rebound performance against Ole Miss and was named Sun Belt Player of the Week after earning MVP honors at the Pensacola Invitational tournament. In that event, he scored 37 points against North Florida—the second-highest total by any Sun Belt player since the beginning of last season.
“The 2025-26 season marks the 106th season of Southern Miss basketball and the 61st season inside Reed Green Coliseum,” as noted by team officials.
Marshall holds a record of 14-8 overall and is currently 6-4 in conference play. The Thundering Herd are strong at home with ten wins out of twelve games and have won seven of their last eight home contests. They recently defeated Arkansas State by nine points behind Wilson Dubinsky’s game-high performance of 23 points and eight rebounds.
Jalen Speer leads Marshall’s offense with an average of 14.3 points per game; teammates Wyatt Fricks (14.1) and Noah Otshudi (14) also contribute double-digit scoring averages. Seven-foot-four center Matt Van Komen tops Marshall’s rebounding efforts at nearly eight boards per game.
Marshall leads all Sun Belt teams in several statistical categories including assist-to-turnover ratio (1.38), assists per game (17), blocks per game (5.7), fastbreak points (12.1), three-pointers made per game (10.2), three-point percentage (.368), and effective field goal percentage (.544). On January 22, Marshall set a program record with twenty-six made three-pointers during a win over ULM—a figure tied for third-most ever in Division I men’s basketball history.
Wednesday’s matchup will be the thirtieth meeting between these former Conference USA rivals and marks their first encounter in Huntington since January last year; Marshall has won nine consecutive home games against Southern Miss.
At the free throw line this year, Southern Miss has made at least twenty free throws on seven occasions—the most since they did so twenty-four times during the 2013-14 campaign—with Jay Ladner’s squad setting new highs for made free throws under his leadership this season.
Southern Miss boasts a strong home record as well: “Southern Miss is 42-11 at The Greenhouse since the start of the 2022-23 season,” according to team data.
Curt Lewis enters this season as one of college basketball’s oldest active players; born May 19, 1999, he is among only a handful nationwide born before June 1999 still competing at this level.
This year’s non-conference schedule featured only five home games for Southern Miss with notable road trips to South Carolina, Miami (Fla.), Radford, LSU, as well as neutral-site action against Ole Miss held at Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
