Southern Miss men’s basketball will play its third consecutive road game as it faces Georgia State on Thursday night. The matchup is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT at the GSU Convocation Center in Atlanta and will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Southern Miss Radio Network.

The Golden Eagles, holding an 11-9 overall record and 5-3 in Sun Belt Conference play, are looking to recover after back-to-back road losses to Troy and Texas State. Despite those setbacks, Southern Miss started league play strong with two wins during its first Sun Belt road trip—its best such start in over a decade.

Tylik Weeks leads the Sun Belt in scoring with an average of 17.9 points per game. Djahi Binet has recorded double-doubles in each of his last three games. Weeks was named Sun Belt Player of the Week and earned MVP honors at the Pensacola Invitational, where he scored 37 points against North Florida—the second-most by any Sun Belt player since the 2022-23 season.

Reflecting on earlier performances, Southern Miss won its conference opener against Louisiana, with Israel Hart contributing a season-high 17 points. Weeks also posted his first career double-double against Ole Miss, collecting a personal-best 10 rebounds along with 18 points.

Coach Jay Ladner’s team has made significant use of free throws this season, making at least 20 in six games—a mark not reached since the 2013-14 season. In their win at Radford, they converted a season-high 27 free throws from 32 attempts.

At home, Southern Miss has been strong under Ladner’s leadership, compiling a record of 41-10 at Reed Green Coliseum since the start of the 2022-23 season and remaining undefeated (7-0) in home openers during his tenure.

Georgia State enters Thursday’s contest with a record of 7-12 overall and is coming off two wins out of its last three games. Jelani Hamilton leads the Panthers with an average of 17.8 points per game. The team ranks first in the Sun Belt and ninth nationally in free throw percentage (78.3%).

Thursday’s meeting marks the fifteenth all-time between Southern Miss and Georgia State but only their third since Southern Miss joined the Sun Belt Conference in 2022. Southern Miss has won both previous meetings as conference opponents, including a victory last February that contributed to a nine-game winning streak en route to a regular-season title.

Curt Lewis is noted as one of Division I basketball’s oldest players this season, having been born on May 19, 1999.
