Southern Miss will begin play in the NCAA Hattiesburg Regional at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field against No. 4 seed Little Rock on May 29 at 12 p.m.
The start time for the Southern Miss-Little Rock game was moved up by an hour due to forecasts of rain in the area during the afternoon. The Golden Eagles, ranked seventh nationally and seeded ninth overall, are hosting their second consecutive regional and fifth overall. The regional also includes No. 2 seed Virginia and No. 3 seed Jacksonville State, who will play later that evening at 6 p.m.
Both Friday games will be available to watch via ESPN+, with radio coverage for the Southern Miss game provided through affiliates of the Southern Miss Sports Network and streaming options on SouthernMiss.com.
This marks Southern Miss’s school-best tenth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its twenty-second overall. The Golden Eagles have a cumulative NCAA Tournament record of 39-45, with three regional titles, one super regional title, and a College World Series appearance in 2009.
In May, Southern Miss has compiled a record of 13-1, including winning four out of five games last week en route to claiming their third Sun Belt Tournament championship since joining the league four years ago. The team is batting .317 for May—its highest monthly average this season—and holds a team earned run average of 3.34 over that span.
Seven players are currently hitting above .300 for the season, led by Matthew Russo (.317), followed by Davis Gillespie (.316), Joey Urban (.314), Kyle Morrison (.313), Seth Smith (.313), and Ben Higdon (.308). Sophomore right-hander Camden Clark (8-0 record; 2.88 ERA) is expected to start for Southern Miss in Friday’s opener against Little Rock, which recently won its conference tournament championship.
