Southern Miss achieved two victories on the final day of the Music City Challenge held at Vanderbilt in Nashville. The men’s 4×400-meter relay team, consisting of Tyrique Lewis, Javel Fullerton, Jacoby Tanner, and Valentino Rudolph, won their event with a time of 3:12.31. In field events, Piers Cameron secured first place in the shot put invitational by recording a throw of 19.68 meters.
On the women’s side, Emme Bates finished fourth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:26.19. The women’s 4×400-meter relay team—Valencia Watson, Addison McLaurin, Jaellene Burgess, and Kennedi Sanders—placed second with a time of 3:42.54. Joidon Boddie came in fourth in the triple jump invitational with a mark of 12.24 meters. Meagan Womack finished eighth in the shot put invitational at 13.91 meters. Kennedi Sanders also placed eighth in the 400 meters at 55.72 seconds.
For the men’s individual events, Jacoby Tanner finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 48.00 seconds while Javel Fullerton was seventh at 48.48 seconds. Saxon Brown placed eighth in the unseeded 800 meters at 1:51.91 and Isaiah Lowrey was eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 14.54 meters.
Southern Miss will have a week off before returning to competition at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships scheduled for February 23-24.
