Southern Miss track and field earned three event victories and several top-eight finishes on March 27 during the second day of the Bulldog Alumni Relays in Starkville. The competition is set to continue Saturday with the final day of events.
The results highlight strong performances by both women’s and men’s teams. Alexandria Cooper led the women’s team in the 5000-meter race, finishing first with a time of 17:37.42. Alana Simon also claimed first place in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.76 meters. On the men’s side, Tyler Hughes secured a win in the high jump by clearing 2.16 meters.
Other notable performances included Cadence Lapp’s third-place finish (17:44.45), Addison Rainey’s fourth (17:50.83), and Indy Grajalez’s sixth (18:37.54) in the women’s 5000 meters, as well as Indea Pounds placing fourth in high jump (1.63m). In sprint events, Addison McLaurin finished sixth in the women’s 200 meters (23.82 seconds), while Kennedi Sanders took eighth (23.97 seconds). Sierra Edwards placed eighth in the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.45.
For Southern Miss men, Maximus Littleton competed across multiple events, earning fifth place in high jump (2.01m) and sixth place in long jump (6.84m). Javel Fullerton was runner-up in the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.28 seconds, while Valentino Rudolph placed seventh in the men’s 200 meters at 21 seconds flat.
In field events for men, Conner Mozee achieved fifth place with his discus throw measuring at 52.42 meters.
The meet will conclude Saturday as athletes look to build on their early successes.
