The Southern Miss women’s golf team is tied for fifth place after the first two rounds of the ULM Invitational, according to a March 30 update. The tournament is being held at Bayou DeSiard Country Club in Monroe, Louisiana.
This performance places Southern Miss in contention among a field of 14 teams. The event gives student-athletes an opportunity to compete against regional programs and improve their rankings as the season progresses.
Louise Cuyvers leads the Golden Eagles, currently holding eighth place individually after shooting even-par rounds of 72 in both sessions. She recorded four birdies in her morning round and three more in the afternoon. Taylor Trible sits tied for twentieth after posting scores of 73 and 76, with four birdies across both rounds. Savannah Van Gaalen is tied for thirtieth with scores of 76 and 75, while Alma Betoret posted an eight-over-par opening round followed by a two-over-par second round to tie for forty-eighth. Liv Romer and Fernanda Gorostiaga are positioned sixty-third and seventy-fourth respectively.
Host team ULM leads by five strokes over Samford University. Houston Christian, Bradley University, Southern Miss, and Troy University make up the rest of the top five teams on the leaderboard; Southern Miss and Troy are level at twenty-over par each. Individually, Johanna Sjursen holds first place at ten-under par—four strokes ahead of LSU’s Ryleigh Knaub.
