98 percent of applicants to the University of Southern Mississippi were admitted for fall 2018

At the University of Southern Mississippi, 80 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 63 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Hattiesburg enrolled 14,509 students in fall 2018, including 11,920 in undergraduate and 2,589 in graduate programs, data shows. 14 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

66 percent of undergraduates are residents of Mississippi, and 33 percent are residents of other states. 1 percent are citizens of foreign countries.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (61 percent) and Black or African American (29 percent).

The school admitted 98 percent of the 8,550 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 25 percent enrolled.
