Forrest County, Miss.- Sheriff Charlie Sims wants to remind all that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Sexual Assault takes many forms in today’s society. Sexual Assault, assault and abuse can happen amongst strangers, friends as well as family members. This is a widespread occurrence in many communities. In the U.S. alone, 1 in 5 women and 1 in 67 men have been raped at some time in their lives and 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 20 boys is sexually abused by the age of seventeen.
The Forrest County Board of Supervisors have a “Sexual Assault Proclamation” on their agenda for Monday, April 4th.
“Through awareness, education and outreach, together we can make a difference in our communities.,” said Sheriff Sims. “We applaud our County Supervisors for their wisdom in recognizing this significant issue in our communities.”
