Forrest County, Miss.- Sheriff Charlie Sims wanted to remind the public that April 24, through April 30th is National Crime Victims’ Rights week.
A week in April is dedicated each year to learning about victimization and the effect it has on individuals, families, friends, and the community. This year, has been designated as “National Victims’ Rights Week.” The Forrest County Sheriff's Office, Hattiesburg Police Department, and The Shafer Center for Crisis Intervention will be using a wreath display at the various agencies visual to honor victims of crime.
“Through my many years in law enforcement, I have seen firsthand the effects of crime on people.,” said Sheriff Sims. “FCSO will always promote law and order and help victims to the best of our ability.”
The FCSO will have a wreath in our lobby where victims of crime can come and place a ribbon. Distinct colors will represent specific crimes. Listed below are the colors and what they represent.
Black and Red-Homicide
Purple-Domestic/Dating violence
Yellow-Stalking
Teal-Sexual Assault
Blue-Child Abuse
Rainbow-LGBTQ/Hate Crime
Orange-Human Trafficking
