Forrest County, Miss.- This morning, Sheriff Charlie Sims welcomed the family members of a homicide victim to commemorate National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. District Attorney Lin Carter and Assistant DA’s Becky Denham and Matthew Shoemaker, who prosecuted the case, were on hand as well.
Jackie Davis was murdered in a domestic violence incident by her boyfriend in 2018. She was in her home with her 10-year-old daughter present.
Minnie Williams, the mother of Jackie Davis led her grandchildren in placing ribbons on the Crime Victims’ wreath. Also present was Davis’s grandmother, Lillian Turner. Family members placed ribbons on a wreath to honor her memory.
“Jackie was and is still loved by many.,” said FCSO Captain Connie Keene. “Jackie was the smiling face that greeted you when you came to the former Hattiesburg Shoney’s. Gone, but not forgotten, we commemorate the life and memory of Jackie Davis. Her legacy lives on through the testimony of her beautiful family.”
April 24, through April 30th is National Crime Victims’ Rights week. This week is dedicated each year to learning about victimization and the effect it has on individuals, families, friends, and the community.
