Forrest County Sheriff's Office - Conservation Officers Discovered Skeletal Remains in a Wooded Area

FCSO PRESS RELEASE – HUMAN REMAINS

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - On Thursday, October 20, 2022, Conservation Officers from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks responded to reports of possible game-related illegal activity on the north end of the boundary line of Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center. While investigating, the Conservation Officers discovered skeletal remains in a wooded area. The Forrest County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), military representatives from Camp Shelby and the Forrest County Coroner responded. The scene is currently under active investigation with assistance from the University of Southern Mississippi Anthropology Department.

The investigation is led by the FCSO utilizing every effort to properly identify the remains in an efficient and timely manner. The remains are being evaluated to determine sex, race, and approximate height of the victim. The investigation is ongoing, and no further details will be released at this time.
