Track & Field Finish Vanderbilt Invitational With School Record

The Southern Miss track and field team finishes its weekend at the Vanderbilt Invitational with another school record broken, along with some personal bests.

"This was a much tougher weekend for us. We had a lot of competition; there were some really talented teams at this meet," said head coach Jon Stuart. "Even if some events and performances fell short of our expectations, I believe we competed well today. And we have improved in many events, which I believe will help propel us toward our goals in two weeks when we return to Birmingham."

The Black & Gold faced tough competition this weekend but found a new school record in the Pentathlon. The record was previously set by Ashley Reyer on Feb. 23, 2007, with 3,801 points and has now been replaced by Safiya John, with 3,876 points finding herself a second-place finish.

Michael Stallworth, Katelyn Cartwright, Jared Williams, Tomek Przybylak, and Mar'Ques McCray improved their personal marks over the two-day meet.
