Matt Adams Earns Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week
Southern Miss junior right-hander Matt Adams (Pearland, Texas) earned the first Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week for the program, Tuesday, after a standout performance last Saturday in a 2-1 home victory over Dallas Baptist.
Adams registered 11 strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings, both career highs, as he limited the Patriots to just four hits and two walks in getting the victory.
His strikeout total included fanning the side once (5th) and getting two strikeouts in three other innings.
Adams retired seven in a row at one point - with five strikeouts during that stretch - and then retired six more after a Golden Eagle error. His pitching stint was the longest by a Golden Eagle starter this season.
For Adams, this was the first weekly award of his career.
The Golden Eagles (8-3) return to action Tuesday night as they travel to Oxford to play in-state foe Ole Miss. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m., and can be viewed via the SEC Network+ as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
