March 25: Carey Dinner Theatre auditions
Carey Dinner Theatre (CDT) will open its 47th season in June at William Carey University’s Hattiesburg campus. Auditions for cast, and interviews for crew, will be Saturday, March 25, starting at 10 a.m. in Joe & Virginia Tatum Theatre.
CDT is a Hattiesburg tradition. Since it was established in 1975, more than 100 colleges and universities, including William Carey University, have been represented by students in the company – as performers, technicians, musicians, and box office workers.
Each member of the company is paid. The financial package includes salary, tips (company members serve during dinner), housing, and some meals.
Performers
Those auditioning as performers will present a one-minute monologue from a modern prose play (no dialect) and a one-minute vocal selection from a Broadway musical. An accompanist will be available but will not transpose; recorded accompaniment may be used. Performers will participate in a dance audition and should bring comfortable clothes. They may also apply for backstage positions.
CDT accepts video auditions: Include a one- to two-minute monologue, a song from a Broadway musical no longer than 32 bars in length, and a movement sample showing dance ability. Upload video auditions to the streaming service of choice (YouTube) and send the link to cdt@wmcarey.edu no later than March 25.
Audition requirements for pianists include a prepared two-minute selection from a Broadway musical. Sight reading will be required.
Technicians & Box Office
Interviews will be held for technicians, costume assistants and box office personnel. Each person will complete an application and an interview with CDT staff. Portfolios are encouraged. Interviewees may also audition as performers.
CDT accepts remote interviews: Those seeking technical/staff positions should contact cdt@wmcarey.edu to set up an interview time. Scheduling must be done by March 25. Digital portfolios are accepted.
Each applicant should bring a head shot to their audition/interview.
The company commitment is June 20 to July 24. Contracts are offered only to those who will graduate from high school by June 20.
