Women's Tennis Falls in Conference Opener

The Southern Miss women's tennis team (5-3, 0-1 Sun Belt) trailed behind Georgia State (1-9, 1-0 Sun Belt) for a 4-3 loss to open conference play at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex Saturday morning.

"The team competed hard but lost a tough match against a consistent tenacious team. We need to focus on making better adjustments to different opponents' game styles," said head coach Piyanart Engineer.

Southern Miss fell in the doubles competition with matching scores of 6-4 for Georgia State to claim the early point.

In singles competition, the Golden Eagles managed a win at No. 4, 5, and 6. Zenn Lim found a win over Pragnya Kumar in two sets of 7-5 and 6-1. Maddison Ricardo would then go 6-4, 7-6, (9-7) for the feat over Alexia Alvarez—Hannah Chambers cliched point three due to walkover.

Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles have Ricardo and Lim going 6-1 for the season.

First serve is slated for 10:00 a.m. at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex, and all home matches are free entry.
