Black or African American had the largest percent of student body in Wayne County schools in 2019-2020 school year

Of the 3,340 students enrolled in Wayne County schools in 2019-2020, 53.3% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Wayne County students.

This is a 1% decrease from the previous school year.

Wayne County High School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Wayne County schools showed 53.3% students were Black or African American, 42.5% were White, 1.9% were Hispanic or Latino and 0.4% were Two or More Races.

There are six schools in Wayne County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
