What background was most represented in Marion County schools in 2019-2020 school year?

Of the 3,692 students enrolled in Marion County schools in 2019-2020, 51.6% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Marion County students.

This is a 0.8% increase over the previous school year.

West Marion High School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Marion County schools showed 51.6% students were White, 42.2% were Black or African American, 1.2% were Hispanic or Latino and 0.8% were Two or More Races.

There are nine schools in Marion County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
