What background was most represented in Perry County schools in 2019-2020 school year?

Of the 1,635 students enrolled in Perry County schools in 2019-2020, 70.6% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Perry County students.

This is a 0.4% decrease from the previous school year.

Richton Elementary School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Perry County schools showed 70.6% students were White, 25% were Black or African American and 0.9% were Two or More Races.

There are six schools in Perry County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
