Enrollment by Ethnicity: Black or African American highest represented background in Wayne County schools in 2020-2021 school year

Of the 2,927 students enrolled in Wayne County schools in 2020-2021, 54.5% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Wayne County students.

This is a 1.2% increase over the previous school year.

Wayne County High School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Wayne County schools showed 54.5% students were Black or African American, 40.9% were White, 1.7% were Hispanic or Latino and 0.4% were Two or More Races.

There are six schools in Wayne County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
