What background was most represented in Covington County schools in 2020-2021 school year?

Of the 2,647 students enrolled in Covington County schools in 2020-2021, 49.7% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Covington County students.

This is a 0.4% increase over the previous school year.

Mount Olive Attendance Center had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Covington County schools showed 49.7% students were Black or African American, 41.9% were White, 4.2% were Hispanic or Latino and 1.3% were Two or More Races.

There are eight schools in Covington County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
