White had the largest percent of student body in Marion County schools in 2020-2021 school year

Of the 3,577 students enrolled in Marion County schools in 2020-2021, 52.9% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Marion County students.

This is a 1.2% increase over the previous school year.

West Marion High School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Marion County schools showed 52.9% students were White, 43.1% were Black or African American, 1% were Two or More Races and 0.3% were Hispanic or Latino.

There are nine schools in Marion County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
