2020-2021: What were the backgrounds of Jones County students?

Of the 10,906 students enrolled in Jones County schools in 2020-2021, 47.4% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Jones County students.

This is a 1.5% decrease from the previous school year.

South Jones High School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Jones County schools showed 47.4% students were White, 36.1% were Black or African American, 11.2% were Hispanic or Latino and 1.6% were Two or More Races.

There are 15 schools in Jones County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
