Enrollment by Ethnicity: Black was most represented background in Forrest County School District schools in 2021-22 school year

Black students made up 40.2% of the 2,160 students enrolled in Forrest County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 4.3% decrease from the previous school year.

Dixie Attendance Center had the highest enrollment in the district with 474 students.

A snapshot of Forrest County School District schools showed 40.2% of students were Black, 22.1% were white, 3.3% were Hispanic, and 3.1% multiracial.

Forrest County School District roughly covers five schools and has a main office in Hattiesburg.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
