2021-22 School Year: What were the backgrounds of Lamar County School District students?

White students made up 53.1% of the 10,325 students enrolled in Lamar County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 12.7% decrease from the previous school year.

Oak Grove High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 1,764 students.

A snapshot of Lamar County School District schools showed 53.1% of students were white, 25.2% were Black, 4.4% were multiracial, 3.1% were Hispanic, and 0.2% Asian.

Lamar County School District roughly covers 14 schools within Lamar County and has a main office in Purvis.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
