Enrollment by Ethnicity: White was most represented background in Petal School District schools in 2021-22 school year

White students made up 71.3% of the 4,264 students enrolled in Petal School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a three% increase over the previous school year.

Petal High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 1,233 students.

A snapshot of Petal School District schools showed 71.3% of students were white, 17.1% were Black, 5.2% were Hispanic, 4.7% were multiracial, and 0.4% Asian.

Petal School District roughly covers five schools within Forrest County and has a main office in Petal.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
