In 2024, the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg allocated $9,034,727 to its football programs, marking a 1.2% decline compared to the prior year, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

Football expenditures accounted for 32.1% of the university’s total sports budget in 2024, totaling $9,034,727.

Since 2010, the University of Southern Mississippi has seen a 44.9% increase in its average sports-related expenses.

College football is one of the biggest sports in the U.S., with some college teams eclipsing NFL teams in terms of attendance and profit.

College athletics has entered a new era of athlete compensation after a federal settlement allowed schools to directly share revenue with players for the first time.
